چکیده

The natural soundscape in Singapore waters is dominated by shipping below 1 kHz and snapping shrimp above 2 kHz. Reclamation noise contributes to 300 Hz 3 kHz. The shrimp noise is expected in all warm and shallow waters, except with very high winds or heavy precipitation. The shrimp noise power is not Gaussian, as might be expected from a collection of independent sources, but log-Normally distributed. Some implications of this specific statistical property for ambient noise imaging systems and algorithms are discussed.

Snapping Shrimp Dominated Natural Soundscape in Singapore Waters

— Snapping shrimp dominate the high frequency soundscape in the warm shallow waters around Singapore. The noises produced by these small creatures are a result of the collapse of cavitation bubbles they produce. During the rapid collapse, the temperatures in the bubble can momentarily reach the surface temperature of the sun, and produce impulsive noise with source levels higher than 190 dB re ...

High-frequency ambient noise in warm shallow waters

In deep water, the dominant sources of natural ocean noise are often events occurring at the sea/air interface. In shallow water, particularly if it is warm, this is often no longer the case. Where wind-related noise is less pronounced, snapping shrimp alone can easily dominate the soundscape over two decades of bandwidth. Particularly for ambient noise imaging, the high frequency content of th...

Determining the desirability of the soundscapes of the Timchehs of Tabriz Bazaar based on objective and subjective assessments

In the present study, in order to explain the desirability of the soundscapes of the Timchehs of Tabriz Bazaar, Sound Pressure Level (SPL) and Reverberation Time (RT) have been measured as objective variables of acoustic behavior. Using descriptive questionnaire, subjective assessments were used to determine the quality of soundscape. The research seeks to answer the question of how the spatial...

Soundscape mapping in urban contexts using GIS techniques

Urban acoustic environments consist of various sound sources including traffic noise, human-generated sounds, and natural sounds that affect the soundscape perception of a given location. However, these sound sources are indistinguishable by noise maps that are based on sound pressure levels. Hence, soundscape maps based on the perception of sounds are necessary to describe an acoustic environm...

Temporal patterns in the soundscape of the shallow waters of a Mediterranean marine protected area

The study of marine soundscapes is an emerging field of research that contributes important information about biological compositions and environmental conditions. The seasonal and circadian soundscape trends of a marine protected area (MPA) in the Mediterranean Sea have been studied for one year using an autonomous acoustic recorder. Frequencies less than 1 kHz are dominated by noise generated...
